School Projects
Angliscisms
Project. My students
got involved in making a book about anglicisms. After a couple
of lessons dealing with these all-pervasive words, they were
capable of gathering information to make a project on it.
Feedback?: first, one funny lesson trying to look for possible
Spanish equivalents for non-adapted lexical items: play
squash became jugar a espachurrar; second, the first
material on their own, and thirdly, lots of surprising words,
many of which they didn't know about. Download related document

Traces of
English in your town. I
wanted to make them aware of the presence of lots of English
words around. They couldn't identify the streets of their own
town till I told them I had taken those pictures the previous
afternoon during one single hour walk round the town. Download

Advertising
Project.
A Power Point
Presentation was the basis for introducing my students into the
topic. Each advertisement contained a huge amount of useful
information to be exploited: ironic pieces of fine writing,
colourful pictures with surprising mottos, different types of
speech, etc. Once having checked the most common elements in
adverts, they became advertisers for a day and worked on their
own to advertise an imaginary product. Go to the Students
Section for further details.
Water Cycle
Adventure.
READERS’ THEATER SCRIPT. This 10-minute readers’ theatre play
traces water in its never-ending cycle.

Video
Compositions.
Have you
ever watched a video composition? They're funny and highly
motivating. Students were requested to take a different identity
and write about it. They could watch themshelves on the computer
screen as they read their compostions aloud. Subtitles were
attached to the digital recording for further revision. Download

Shakespeare
Project.
My students
had never heard about the English playwright except for the
plot of Hamlet in the worldwide stunning series of The
Simpsons. After reading some adapted versions of his plays,
they realized how many present films were based on Shakespeare's
imagination.
Commercials
Project.
What if you
were given the tools to become a brilliant advertiser? My
students were granted the chance to make a commercial on TV and
they took advantage of it. They advertised products such as "The
Antisnoring Mask", "The Dreams-Come-True Glasses" or "The Magic
Portable Toilet".
Movies Project.
Not many people can
assure that they don't like movies or have never seen a film.
The new amazing digital animation movies are changing our
viewpoints about cinema. But there is a long story behind them.
PowerPoint Oral
Presentations.
This
time they had to put in their teacher's shoes and could check
it's quite hard. I told my students to choose a fiction
character and create a PowerPoint Presentation based on it. They
raised standards in designing and building up enjoyable and
funny presentations. They also did their best and became
teachers for a while as they gave short but effective talks.
Needless to say their audience got involved easily.
